About me

From mechanical engineer to BIM Coordinator

BIM Coordinator and Mechanical Engineer with 15+ years in MEP / fire protection engineering, including about 9 years of BIM coordination and digital delivery since 2017.

My story

Engineering first, then BIM, now information management

I started my career on site in Yangon in 2010, supervising fire protection and plumbing installation, testing and commissioning. From 2011 I moved into fire protection design, producing sprinkler, riser, hydrant and fire alarm drawings, first at Myanmar Beca and, from 2013, at Tong Loong Engineering in Singapore.

From 2017 I moved fire protection delivery into BIM: Revit MEP modelling, Navisworks federation and clash detection, and coordination with architecture, structure and other MEP trades. I completed Specialist Diplomas in BIM (2019) and Virtual Design & Construction (2020) at BCA Academy, and an MSc in Mechanical Engineering at NTU (2024).

Today I am Design Manager / BIM Coordinator – Fire Protection. I coordinate our fire protection BIM delivery from Revit project setup to QA-checked models, manage information in Autodesk Construction Cloud in line with ISO 19650, and build Dynamo / Python tools that take repetitive work off the team. In 2026 I became a BRE Global ISO 19650-2 Project Information Management (PIM) Practitioner.

My specialist advantage is that I also design the systems I coordinate. When a sprinkler main has to move, I check the coverage rules, obstructions and hydraulics before the geometry changes, so the coordinated route still works as a fire protection system.

How I work

Six principles behind my coordination work

Coordination-led

Coordination is run as a controlled process: requirements, federation, clash tests, resolution, QA and exchange are managed together.

Code before geometry

Design intent and code rules are checked before a route is changed, not after the model has moved.

Clash-free is not buildable

A clean clash report is a start. Access, supports, installation sequence and maintenance also have to work.

Evidence in the CDE

QA checklists, clash viewpoints, the RFI log and status history are kept, so every decision can be traced.

Right information, not more

Fit-for-purpose information at the right level of need beats maximum detail that nobody can rely on.

Automate the repetitive

Repeated modelling and checking tasks become Dynamo workflows, so the team’s time goes to engineering decisions.
