Core strengths
More Than a BIM Modeller
BIM coordination is the core of my role; fire protection engineering gives it depth. I assess clashes not only as modelling conflicts but also for system requirements, installation constraints, access and maintainability, hydraulic implications and design intent.
BIM Coordination
BIM coordination since 2017. Federated model coordination in Revit and Navisworks, with models shared through Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC, now Autodesk Forma) and issues tracked in Revizto.
Engineering Depth
15+ years of Fire Protection / MEP engineering, from site supervision and design drawings to design management. It is what makes each coordination decision technically sound.
Digital Delivery
ISO 19650 principles applied at task-team level through CDE workflows, with Dynamo and Python used for model QA and repetitive modelling tasks.

Case Study 01 · Practical ISO 19650 task-team delivery
Parry Avenue Assisted Living (Perennial)
Assisted living · Singapore
Project context
Assisted living development in Singapore with two blocks (AL and NH), from basement to upper roof. Project information was managed to ISO 19650 with ACC as the CDE, and the Fire Protection package was produced by a subcontractor task team.
Project evidence
- 14 FP information containers assigned, planned and delivered within the task-team scope
- 4 key RFIs closed: 3 coordination + 1 information
- 2 wks L3 buffer added to the MIDP by the lead appointed party after escalation
- 1 naming error caught before DRM sign-off
- 3 FP BIM team members
My role and responsibilities
Fire Protection BIM Coordinator within the Fire Protection task-team scope: BEP naming validation, TIDP preparation, MIDP coordination and dependency tracking, multidisciplinary clash coordination in Navisworks, model QA/QC and controlled information exchange through the CDE. Submissions went to the lead appointed party for authorisation.
Information management
- Reviewed the Detailed Responsibility Matrix (DRM) and verified all 14 FP containers
- Prepared the FP TIDP with containers, dates and upstream dependencies (planned dates 21 Mar to 13 Jun 2025)
- Validated container names against the BEP naming convention
CDE workflow and model QA/QC
- WIP → Shared → Published → Archived in ACC, with S1 suitability applied at WIP → Shared
- BEP model validation checklist completed before each Shared submission
- Missing installation-status data on L2 sprinklers identified and corrected before resubmission
- Submitted for lead appointed party authorisation; moved to Published only after appointing party acceptance
Multidisciplinary coordination
- Federated model review and clash detection in Navisworks
- L2 ceiling void: sprinkler, ACMV duct and cable tray clash rerouted within agreed mounting heights and service zones
- Major clashes escalated as RFIs; replies checked before the Revit model was updated
Coordination impact: the third-storey (L3) dependency
- Risk L3 sprinkler routing depended on structural beam coordination and ceiling clearance, while one coordinator and two modellers were handling overlapping L3 to L5 submissions.
- Action Identified the dependency while preparing the TIDP, recorded it there and escalated it in writing to the lead appointed party before the MIDP was finalised.
- Result The lead appointed party incorporated a two-week sequencing buffer for L3 into the MIDP, aligning the structural and FP submission windows and reducing rework risk.
ISO 19650-2 activities by stage (clauses 5.3 to 5.7)
Cl. 5.3 · Tender response
Capability and capacity
- Assessed task-team people, process and technology against the project information requirements (EIR / BEP)

When does a clash become an RFI?
- Major: time or cost impact, or it affects structure, authority approval, safety / code compliance or façade. Raised as an RFI to the responsible designer or consultant.
- Minor: within agreed design responsibility and coordination rules, so no external design decision is required. Resolved within the model.
Records kept in the CDE: completed QA checklists, clash viewpoints, the RFI log with consultant replies, and the container status history.

Engineering-informed BIM
Engineering-Informed BIM: Hydraulic Coordination Evidence
BIM coordination decisions are informed by Fire Protection engineering, hydraulic requirements, installation constraints, and access and maintainability. When a clash forces a reroute, pipe sizes, flow and pressure are re-checked in FHC so that the coordinated model still works. A worked example from an FHC hydraulic calculation report:
Calculated hydraulic demand
7,299.7 L/min
@ 7.429 bar
Source duty from the FHC output. Check: 12 operating sprinklers at approximately 603.0 to 614.5 L/min each sum to about 7,300 L/min, matching the source duty.
All values are taken from the FHC report output.
- Design standard NFPA 13:2016
- Hazard class High Hazard Category 1
- Sprinkler type ESFR K25.2 (K = 360 L/min/bar½)
- Operating sprinklers 12, at 9.0 m² per head
- Design area 108 m²
- Sprinkler pressure Minimum 2.80 bar; actual 2.81 to 2.91 bar
- Sprinkler flows Approximately 603.0 to 614.5 L/min
- Before geometry is changed Coverage, spacing and obstruction are checked against the fire protection design intent and code rules.
- When routes or pipe sizes change Hydraulic checks are re-run in FHC.
- Before the model is shared Installation clearance and access, and fixture mounting heights, are checked as part of coordination QA.
Coordination approach
BIM Coordination Workflow
A workflow that connects design requirements, multidisciplinary model federation, clash resolution, RFIs, QA and controlled information exchange. Clash detection is one step, not the whole process.
Review
Requirements, BEP, models and design intent.
Federate
Revit / Navisworks multidisciplinary models.
Identify
Clashes, interfaces and information issues.
Resolve / RFI
Coordinate issues, or raise an RFI where design-team input is required.
QA / Deliver
Model QA/QC and controlled information exchange.
- Clashes are classified Assessed for time / cost, structural, authority, safety / code and design-responsibility impact. Task-team issues are resolved within the model.
- Design intent comes first Fire protection design intent and code rules are checked before geometry is changed.
- Evidence is kept in the CDE QA checklists, clash viewpoints, the RFI log and the status history.

Dynamo + Python
Revit API · Dynamo Player
Automate the Repetitive.
The tools support design and BIM delivery within my role. They are not presented as software-development experience.
BIM automation
BIM coordination first. Automation as a productivity differentiator.
BIM automation using Dynamo, Python and the Revit API: repetitive design, BIM coordination and model QA tasks converted into repeatable workflows. Six tools are demonstrated below, with four additional tools listed in the supporting library.
- 1 · Problem A repetitive design, coordination or QA task identified on a project.
- 2 · Dynamo / Python workflow A Dynamo graph with Python and the Revit API, run from Dynamo Player.
- 3 · QA / output Excel reports, flags, colour overrides or placed elements: results that can be checked.
- 4 · Project benefit Consistent output that the design team can review and coordinate.
